A peak into our week

This week has been full of school, school, and more school. We are slowly getting into a routine. Each day is getting better. Emily has continued to make progress in her reading. JJ is still not caring whether he does school work or not. He does love to use the scissors though... which is why they are on the highest shelf in the house. I'm not willing to chance his creative abilities. Andrew's science supplies came in Thursday evening, a day earlier than expected. He was excited. We opened the box when Mike and I got home from the funeral home. Two of the big beakers were crushed (thanks to UPS) despite the excellent wrapping job Home Science Tools done to help prevent damage. I will have to call them Monday to report the damage.
Friday was my birthday. I turned 34! I never thought I would still be having kids at this age, but I'm loving it. I got up earlier than I had hoped, b/c I needed to cook for my great aunt and family. My cousin Sharese Casteen passed away on Tuesday. For about an hour after I woke up, it was just me, Bekah, and Luke. The rest of the kids joined us around 10am. They had worked so hard this week doing extra lessons each day, so they could have my birthday off. I was just going to have school as normal, but they informed me that we don't school on b-days. LOL I let them enjoy their day off and sleep in. Mike crawled out of bed about 11am. I just didn't dare to wake him up. He works so hard to provide for our family, and I know he is exhausted. I thought he deserved to sleep in also. Mike and I took lunch over to my aunt's house, then we were off to SAV for my "Daddy date" as the kids refer to their birthday dates with Mike. We were going to see a movie, but there really wasn't anything playing we just had to see. We were both bummed that Transformers 2 wasn't still playing. We had lunch at the mall and done a little shopping. I had a baby shower gift to buy as well as a few things to pick up at Target. We had an amazing supper at Carraba's. I just love that place. I was MISERABLE when I left though... I ate WAY TOO MUCH! We went to Books-A-Million to browse. I don't really get to look around when I go in with the kids b/c the little ones want to go straight to the train set. We ended up leaving after buying $75 in books, classics mostly... Emma and Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austin, Dracula, A Tales of Two Cities, collection of poems by Edgar Allen Poe, a collection of stories of King Arthur, etc. We came home and cut the chocolate cake that Grandma Jean made me for my birthday. JJ told Andrew after supper, "Okay, now it's time to cut Mommy's cake!" He was waiting up for me to cut it. After he and Bekah polished off 1 1/2 slices of cake each, we got them to bed. Mike, Andrew, Laura, and I finished off our night by standing outside to watch the space shuttle take off in Florida. We were able to see the orange glow for about 5 seconds, but it was still cool to say we saw it.
This morning Papa Harold brought a surprise for the kiddos.... A RABBIT! It is a little one. It jumped up when Papa was cutting the grass in his garden and around the grape vines. Lissa says that he thought we needed a rabbit since Mike and I are so much like rabbits. Ha, ha Lissa! The kids spent the afternoon w/ Papa and Grandma while I went to a cousin's baby shower. Emi was at the shower w/ Granny and Aunt Sarah. It is her weekend to have time with them. I think Andrew may be going next weekend, so he can go to GSU's first game w/ Sarah.
Well, I'm off to take my meds for heartburn. Dr. Palmer has put me one something twice a day to help control it. Love ya bunches!

The week review...

Our week started w/ doctor appointments for me and Luke on Monday morning. Mike went with us. I had an ultrasound and got to see our little Jonathan squirming around. He still wouldn't give us a good 4-D face shot. He is measuring right now schedule. I scheduled my induction for November 4. Yes, I know it is early, but I don't want anyone else to get that date. Luke's appointment took FOREVER. We signed in at 11am for his 11:15am appointment. We weren't called to the back until 12:10pm. Can you imagine Mike and Luke's moods by this time?! We didn't leave until almost 1pm. We were all starving, and Luke was ready for a nap. The doctor said that all 3 doctors in the office were seeing an extra 10-15 patients each per day for the past two weeks. The sick child waiting room was full when we got there, and I've never seen it like that before. I just thank God that we were just there for a recheck on Luke's hemoglobin, and we could sit in the well child waiting room.
We started our school year on Tuesday. It was quiet a day. Mike was home, and I felt like I should be spending time with him. But, I also needed to help the kids with their school work. Mike got a call midmorning about an a/c job, so he told Andrew to get as much work done and be ready to leave by noon. They done the job and then Andrew finished the rest of his school work that evening. JJ was in a crabby mood, so he got to go to bed early that night. Whew, glad the first day is behind us!
Wednesday was a pretty good day. Everyone, including JJ, was in a good mood and got their work done without complaints. Holding my breath and praying that this continues! Mike got the baby gate put back up for me, so Luke is still trying to adjust to being shut off from the one end of the house or the other at times. He has already tried to climb it, which he can't. Bekah stayed the night with Papa Harold and Grandma Jean. She was excited to spend the time with them, and I'm sure they enjoyed it just as much. At bedtime, JJ told me he wasn't sleepy. I told him he had to go to bed b/c the next day was a school day. "I don't want to have a school day," was his reply. When I told him that he had to, he asked the typical question, "Why?" I told him he was growing up, and it was a part of getting older. He said, "I don't wanna get older then!" I can already see that this is gonna be an interesting year! I spent several hours online after the little ones were in bed and asleep looking up lab supplies for Andrew's Physical Science course. I put some in the "shopping cart" on a website and then went to bed thinking I would finish it the next day.
Thursday was another good day. We got started w/ Algebra 1 and 7th grade math before any of the little ones woke up. I worked on the lab supply list off and on all day as I got a free 10-15 minutes. I thought I would print out the list to show Mike to see what he said, especially since it was a little over $250. I couldn't get the stupid list to print. So what did I do?! I closed the screen thinking that it was saved since it had saved it the night before. NOPE, it didn't... all my hard work was GONE!!!! I could have cry and threw the computer out of the back door, but I didn't. I just decided to wait until that night to get it all done again. Emi, JJ, and Bekah was super excited when the mail came. I had ordered a book to teach cutting skills. I thought that would be more interesting than just handing them blank paper and letting them cut it up. I made copies of a page and had them all sit down at their little table. We went over the rules for scissors... no cutting hair, no cutting clothing (JJ has already shredded a shirt before b/c it wasn't "perfect." Don't ask me! Those were his words!), no getting up from the table and walking around with scissors, etc. They had a blast! After they finished their paper, I gave them each a piece of yellow construction paper to cut as they wished. I'm still finding little pieces of yellow paper.
Today was a good day. Mike was home. He checked on my dishwasher that was leaking. He needs to get a seal for it, I think. Andrew and Laura are really doing well with their schooling. I have to share a MAJOR accomplishment for Emily. Last year, she struggled with phonics. She just wasn't getting it. The more we worked on it, the more stressed out she got, which in turn stressed me out. We all know that Emi is smart as a whip, but the phonics weren't clicking with her. After lots of prayer, I put the phonics away. We were doing more harm than good. I pulled the Saxon Phonics K back out this week to give it another go. She is still having some problems, but she isn't getting stressed out like she did last year. Today, she read her first little reader. Of course it had itty bitty words, "A hot hog. A hot log. A hot tot. A hot pal. The End." But she read the book herself. She was so excited! She read it to everyone in the house. I made a big deal of it being "story time" and asked if she could read the book to the "little ones." JJ being JJ didn't disappoint. As soon as she finished reading the book, he said, "That story was boring! Can you read us a real book, Emi?" Oh my goodness, what am I going to do with him. I thought Andrew was going to fall out of his chair laughing. Needless to say, Emi read that book to them 3 or 4 more times. We could hear her in their bedroom say, "Okay, I'm not going to read if you don't sit down. JJ, put that down or I'm going to put the book away." Wonder where she gets that from?!
Last night I started priming the little girls' closet. I know Mike wants to get that project completed, but can't until I get my part done. I put the first coat on last night and put the second coat on tonight. I also started priming the walls that the closet is on. I need to put one more coat on those walls, then I can paint. I wanted a pink color on the walls but decided to use an off white. I will use the wall stickers for the "color." I know that if Mike's mom were still living, the painting would be done already. The woman loved to paint a room. We talk about her all the time, and it only makes me miss her more.
Well, this chick is exhausted. I'm going to get some sleep. Mike has another a/c job tomorrow in Savannah. I think I'm going to get up and leave to go grocery shopping when he leaves. So much for sleeping in w/ my hubby! Love ya bunches!

Just a Saturday at home

I thought about going to Savannah today... but, it was just a thought. I didn't want to get dressed to go anywhere, so we stayed home. I have been working on school stuff all day. My legs are hurting from being up on them most of the day. I had planned to work on it some last night, but heartburn got the best of me.
Luke stayed with my parents and sister last night. It was the first time he has stayed overnight away from home. As far as I know, he done good. My daddy has been begging for months for me to let him stay, so Sarah and I surprised them last night. At 10pm, he was drinking Gatorade and eating cookies. That probably went well with the pizza he had for supper and the boiled peanuts he ate at Grandma Jean's. I'm glad I don't have to change that diaper. :o)
Mike is working 4am to 4pm this weekend. He called me a few minutes ago just to talk while he was driving from work to an a/c job in Savannah. God has really blessed us the past couple weeks with a/c jobs.
Emily and Rebekah are playing games on their computers. Andrew and JJ are watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the living room. JJ was about to drive Andrew crazy to put the dvd in to watch. Laura is help Emi w/ her game. I think she is doing something w/ fractions. It seems strange not having to run after Luke.
Well, I'm off to get more school work ready. Love ya bunches!

A relaxing Thursday

Okay, so I had planned on having a very productive day at home. Mike didn't have to go to work at Colonial, but he did have to go to Savannah to do an a/c job. We slept in until 7:15am. He left and I stayed in bed hoping that Luke would go back to sleep. He woke up when Mike got up, so Mike put him in bed w/ me. I think I got up around 8:30am. I was so tired that I couldn't talk myself into getting up any earlier. I made my coffee and woke the rest of the household. Mike called at 9:30am to say he was going to grab him something to eat and then head home. The job didn't take long. By the time he got through traffic and drove home, it was around 11am when he got home. He was home about 2 minutes when he got a call to go back to Savannah for another a/c job. I decided to ride along this time.
He dropped me off at Target on his way to the job. I didn't feel right going to the job site. He was going to be a couple miles from the mall, so I decided to hang out there. I shopped while he worked. hehehe I got to look at what I wanted w/o him or the kids rushing me. We had a quick lunch at the food court when he was done. Then, we went to see G.I. Joe. The movie was awesome! After the movie, I needed to go by Barnett's School Supply. Of course, THE LIGHT was on. I'm not one to "break any laws," so we pulled in there for a couple dozen. :o) We made it to Barnett's and got our stuff before the bottom fell outta the clouds. Mike had decided to pick up something to eat at Checker's, so we still had to drive in the pouring rain. It stopped raining before we got to Dean Forest on I-16, so it was a pleasant ride home.
The kids were excited to see us.... when we got the boxes of goodness outta the back seat. They each got one when they finished eating their supper. Andrew wasn't happy when he found the ticket stubs to the movie. LOL He will recover from his disappointment.
Well, I'm off to check email. Love ya bunches!

What a week so far!

Wow, what a week it has been already. There hasn't been anything stressful going on... just a lot of little things getting done. Although you wouldn't be able to tell my the state of my house, I am getting some projects accomplished. Yesterday I went through papers that needed to be destroyed. I had cancelled checks and Mike's check stubs from when Mike and I first got married. Yes, 16 years ago!!! My dear son Andrew got the job of burning all the clutter. I was telling Mike about some of the stuff I got rid of, and Andrew piped in, "Yeah, there were checks older than me!" Why in the world did I keep all that stuff?! Andrew didn't get all the burning done yesterday afternoon... guess 2-3 hours was enough for one day. He is planning to finish it up today before the rain gets here.
My dear sweet hubby is working today, on his day off. He is wanting to get our emergency fund built back up, since we have been totally off our budget. Last week, he had a good week w/ his a/c jobs. This week seems like it is going to be busy also. He had a job yesterday after work and will have a couple jobs today when he clocks out at Colonial. I am so BLESSED. I pray that God will keep my eyes open to see just how much of a blessing Mike is to me. I also pray that I'm the wife he needs and deserves me to be.
JJ came home yesterday morning after staying w/ Grandaddy and Granny for 3 days and nights. Sarah brought him home at 9am, and he crashed on the couch until after 11am. He had a wonderful time being the center of attention. He is such a little ham. I'm sure he kept things interesting at my parents' house.
Yesterday morning, Bekah took herself to the potty. I heard her yell, "I'm done!" I was holding my breath as to what I might find when I got in there. She sometimes takes herself to the potty after she has already started the process in her Pull-up.... leaving a HUGE mess for us to clean up. Not yesterday! She didn't do anything until she got to the potty. YAY!!! Maybe... just maybe, she will be potty trained before Jonathan is born.
Well, I'm going to find something to eat. Jonathan and I are HUNGRY! Have a blessed day. Love ya bunches!

The weekend is already over?!

I typed up my blog last night. When I tried to publish it, the blog gremlin ate the post. grrrrrrr! I was so tired that I didn't attempt to retype it. Maybe I can remember everything I typed last night.

First, I will tell you that our little butter bean now has a first name. His name will be Jonathan. I have no clue what his middle name will be, but we have a little time to think about that. I have 3 months from today until my due date. YAY! The weeks are ticking by quickly. I will be holding another little blessing from God before I know it.

Luke has learned to climb up on his rocking horse. He is just too cute sitting up there. He also learned to open the Tupperware cookie container yesterday. He wanted Andrew to get him another cookie. Andrew told him to get it himself, and the little stinker managed to get the container open!

On Friday, Andrew put together a dresser that we had bought in June. I'm so thankful for a husband that has taught our son to use tools. I'm also thankful for a son that can read the directions and understand them. I got JJ's clothes moved over to the new dresser. I have to go through Luke's stuff and move it to Jonathan's dresser. It should be an interesting week.

Mike and Andrew finished cutting out the little girls' closet door opening. Everything now has a nice white coat of sheetrock dust. I have to wipe down the walls and get them painted, so they can put up the trim. I'm so excited to have that much done.

My parents ate supper w/ us Saturday night. Mama stopped by that afternoon to see the kids. Mike and I made a run to Lowe's to get paint and a few other things. Mama said she was going to stay a few more minutes. She was still here when we got home about 2 hours later. She had swept and mopped my kitchen floor and washed the dishes in the sink. She had also convinced the little ones to pick up there toys in the living room. She bribed them w/ bananas. My little monkeys just can't resist bananas. Daddy came over as soon as it was too dark for him to work on a pond. JJ went home with them after supper. I think he conned them into eating at McDonald's twice yesterday (breakfast & lunch.) He had pancakes for supper last night at his request. I know he is drinking up this time w/ Granddaddy & Granny.

Laura took a pic of me late last night, so I could show off my growing tummy. I was so tired, but knew I needed to get it done. Hope you enjoy! Love ya bunches!

Someone in need of a miracle...

http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/charlotterendine
I got this link from Aunt Lisa yesterday. While she was out in Texas for the month following her surgery, they all got to know a family that was staying upstairs. The family's 6 year old little girl had just had surgery to have 3 tumors removed from her brain. This was her 3rd surgery. Papa & Grandma came home telling us all about her. The family has been through a lot... more than even I think I could handle. But they have just received some horrible news. The doctors have found 15 new tumors in her brain, and surgery is not an option. Please be in prayer for her and family. Take time to look at the website. She is absolutely precious. You know, any one of us could be facing the same circumstance. God is their only answer. Only He can bring them the peace and comfort that they need.

Midweek update

Yesterday was a somewhat productive day. I was dragging b/c of no sleep, but I didn't let that stop me from getting a few things done. I actually cleaned the ceiling and walls in the livingroom. Goodness gracious! They had a winter coat on them, as much as I'm ashamed to admit that. Come on though, I have 6 kids! Like I have time to wipe down the walls and ceilings on a regular basis. Anyhoo, Andrew and Laura worked yesterday w/ little attitude. As for the littlest Hillians, they played as much as they worked. Mike had a Transformers cartoon sent from Netflix that my little JJ is dying to watch. Looks like he won't be watching it if he doesn't pick up his blocks and cars. I think Emily is wanting to see it too. But unless the babies, dress up clothes, and books get put away (with Bekah's help, of course), she won't be watching it either.
I started reading Created to be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl. Thank you Julie for the suggestion. Talk about getting my toes tap danced on early this morning. It is so hard to change from what the world says a marriage is suppose be into what God says a marriage is to be. God's view isn't the popular view, and it takes more work. Anyhoo, I'm not going to get on my soapbox this morning. I have way too much on my mind.
On a lighter note... can you believe that Princess Bekah hasn't had her little pink tu-tu on in a few days?! To tell you the truth, I have no clue where it is. I will admit that I'm not missing it either. She has ran around the house in a pink fairy dress. Maybe I will have my prissy girl after all. I'm not holding my breath on that one. She is as mean as a rattlesnake. She must get that from the Hill side of the family. :o) Love you, Lissa!
As we are working on re-organizing the school room, the little ones are getting excited about the new school year. Laura fixed our calendar yesterday, as we have not kept up w/ it through the summer. She has the little First Day of School tag on the 17th. Maybe that will help the little ones understand how much longer they have to wait. I need to have Mike put the babygate back up between the dining room and kitchen, so I can keep Mr. Luke confined to one end of the house. I don't think Bekah will be as much work to entertain. I have a few things that she can do, so she feels like she is doing big girl schoolwork too.
Well, I'm off to be a productive member of the family. Emily is already up... playing a Dr. Seuss reading game on her computer. Love ya bunches!

Trying to crawl out from under the fog

Okay, I was informed by Julie Moye that I needed to get outta my funk and get my blog going again. I really am trying! I don't know what is up, but I'm just not in the mood to do much of anything.
I had a little mini-meltdown yesterday. I have so much that needs to be done before the baby arrives, and I don't see it getting done. Some of it requires Mike getting some things done before I can start my part. The way his schedule has been going, the projects will be done in.... 2 years. I'm not complaining b/c I know he works hard to support our family. I'm just saying that I need his help w/ some of this stuff. I don't think he wants me using a saw to finish cutting out the girls' closet. Yesterday, I made it a goal to get the living room uncovered. Every time I requested help, I was greeted w/ major attitude from the older two. Now I wasn't asking them to do anything that I wasn't going to be right there helping out. I wasn't going to be sitting there barking orders while they were doing the work. I just knew that I needed help cleaning out from under the couches, etc. Do you know how much stuff little ones can cram under a couch?! After a lot of attitude, I decided to let 'em slide til their daddy got home from work. I was at my breaking point and knew that anything I said or done would do more damage than good. Well, my hubby came to my rescue. He had chats w/ all the kids. At one point, he looked at me and told me I needed to stop what I was doing and go get a hot bath. Some days, I do wish the world around me would stop so I can catch my breath. But it doesn't, so I have to just take things one day at a time. With a lot of prayer, I will survive. I know there are those out there that would say, "Well, it wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have all those kids!" We all face times like this whether we have 1 or 10 kids. There isn't one of my kids I can picture my life without. I am excited about welcoming another little "Hillian" into our family. They are each a blessing.
Mike says I'm exhausted, which could be partly true. At his suggestion, I went to bed shortly after 10pm when he went to bed. What did I do?! I tossed and turned all night. I may have slept 2-3 hours. I was up w/ him at 5:15am, to make him breakfast. I have been up since. I did enjoy a couple hours of uninterrupted reading. Bekah woke up about the time Mike and I did, but she curled up on the couch next to me and was quiet as a mouse. I guess she knew Mommy needed that time. She finally went back to sleep sometime after 7am and is still peacefully sleeping on the couch.
I am off to check a load of laundry in the washer. Hope I didn't drag you down. Just wanted to get some things out before I imploded. See! My life isn't perfect. It is filled w/ the same struggles that you all have. Love ya bunches!

Just in a mood

I know I haven't posted in several days, but I just haven't been in the "mood." Don't ask what is wrong, b/c I have no clue. We will blame it on the hormones and move on. We had a good weekend. Mike had a/c jobs to do in Savannah on Saturday. I took Emily and JJ to the church for cheerleading and flag football evaluations. We ran a few errands in town while we were out. I even picked up lunch from McDonald's. Today, we went to church then went out for lunch in Vidalia. I was ready to come home for a nap after that. I did manage a short nap before having to get up to go back to church. We got about an inch of rain... thank you Lord!
Well, I have to go take my vitamin now. I have a doctor appointment in the morning. I can't have anything to eat or drink after midnight, b/c I'm doing the glucose tolerance test. I told Laura today that I would have to leave home w/o any coffee. She suggested that I leave them all asleep in bed and just call home to wake them up when I was a safe distance from home. Do you think she thinks I will be a little crabby?! Love ya bunches!
